Döner Bistro

During my time living in Germany, I quickly fell in love with what has become the national street food.  Döner Kebab is a simple sandwich that is a fusion of German and Turkish culinary stylings.  Virtually unheard of here in the states, I was very surprised and delighted to find Döner Bistro in the heart of Leesburg, Virginia.

202 Harrison Street, SE
Leesburg, VA 20175

Döner Bistro has a very unique set up, all food prepared is done so in the Mighty Midget Kitchen which is actually outside the restaurant.  Food is prepared to order with fresh local ingredients and served hot either inside the restaurant or outside in their "Bier Garten".

The menu offers the Döner Kebab, served in the German tradition of freshly sliced, lean beef or chicken from the rotisserie in a hot flatbread with lettuce, sweet ’n sour coleslaw, tomato-cucumber mix and onions, topped with our garlic-yoghurt sauce with fresh cucumbers (Tzatziki).

For those who are watching their carb intake, there is a salad version of this as well, which has quickly become Colleen's favorite.

Other classics are available on the menu such as their Currywurst.  Slices of beef sausages or skinless pork sausage topped with warm curryketchup served with either pommes (fries) or a fresh bread roll.

If you are a lover of German beers, this is THE place to go.  With offerings from Bitburger, Spaten, Einbecker, König to Weihenstephaner, Ettaler, Erdinger and Franziskaner.  The selection of beers is impressive and reasonably priced.  A robust rack of glasses offers the proper beer glass for the style you are drinking.

You can have that Oktoberfest feel every time you visit.

We have been frequenting Döner Bistro every time we come back from the wineries in Loudoun County.  It just seems like the perfect meal to have after a long day of enjoying Virginia Wines.
